Governance at Sojourners Church

Sojourners Church is committed to being a healthy and responsible church. Our governance structures play an important role in in providing the appropriate accountability, wisdom and support to our leaders, as we pursue our mission together.

Anglican Diocese of Melbourne

Sojourners Church is an Authorised Anglican Congregation (AAC) in the Diocese of Melbourne and an unincorporated entity registered as a Basic Religious Charity with the Australian Charities and Not for Profits Commission (ACNC).

Lay volunteer members are appointed annually to hold office as warden or church
council member, and provide accountability and governance within the Anglican framework. As priest-in-
charge, the Senior Pastor is additionally accountable to the Archbishop and assistant bishops, who provide
Episcopal oversight across the diocese. The Congregational Rules that govern the congregation are derived from the Parish Governance Act. 

Sojourners Collective Ltd. 

Sojourners Collective Ltd. is the incorporated entity that acts on behalf of the congregation and is registered with ACNC. Sojourners Collective Ltd. has an Object to advance religion inline with the Principles and Commitment of the Anglican Church of Australia, including:

(a) to operate Sojourners Church as an Authorised Anglican Congregation in accordance with the Parish Governance Act;
(b) to act as trustee and to perform and discharge the duties and functions conducive to the attainment of the Object; and
(c) to do such other things as are incidental or conducive to the attainment of the Object, including the establishment of any fund or institution.
